List of Osha Regulations for Construction sites
- 1926.20 General safety and Health Provisions. This guideline states that it is the employers responsibility to prevent accidents with programs that teach safety. Also that there should be frequent inspections of all safety equipment to make sure it is being maintained properly. Only employees with proper safety training shall be allowed to operate certain equipment on the construction site.
- 1926.21 Safety Training and Education. Requires that all employees are trained in construction safety. Any employee required to operate large machinery must be trained in it's proper use and safety precautions. If an employee is required to handle hazardous materials they are to be trained in proper personal equipment use such as mask and body suits. It is also a law that they most be trained to handle spills or other accidents relating to the hazardous materials.
- 1926.25 Housekeeping. While construction is being performed on a building it is mandatory to keep all doorways,walkways and exits clean and clear of debris. There must be a dumpster or other receptacle for trash to be deposited into. All hazardous materials are to be separated and disposed of properly.
- 1926.34 Means of Egress. All buildings during construction shall be maintained to provide unobstructed egress from all areas of the building while it is occupied. Locks may be installed only when absolutely necessary such as in a corrective or mental institution where it is a matter of public safety. All exit are to be clearly marked and easily accessible by everyone.
- 1926.100 Head Protection. Osha regulations for construction states that all employees working in an area where the possibility of falling objects may occur are required to wear a hard hat. This is also to protect them from hanging wires which may cause electrical shock. Hard hats must also meet the specifications of the American National Standards Institute.
- 1926.102 Eye and Face Protection. Employees are to be provided with eye and face protection when needed. Any job where loose materials or chemicals could damage your face requires the use of safety goggles. If the employees wheres regular glasses special safety glasses can be ordered or regular goggles can be worn over them. All eye protection equipment is to be kept in good shape and clean or should be trashed and replaced with new protective gear.
- 1926.106 Working On or Near Water. Any person working near water that may present the danger of drowning is required to wear a life vest. All Life vest are to be U.S. Coast Guard approved. There must also be a row boat immediately available for use in case an accident occurs where some one falls into the water. life jackets must be checked frequently for leaks or other defects that would alter there floating ability.
- 1926.150 Fire Protection. The employer is responsible for fire protection throughout the entire construction of a building. Make sure all employees are trained in fire prevention and awareness. Fire extinguisher should be in a place where all employees can find it and should be maintained frequently to ensure it is working properly.
- 1926.301 Hand Tools. No employee shall be permitted to use an unsafe hand tool. All wrenches and pliers must be checked daily to make sure the jaws are not sprung which could result in slippage while in use. Any tool with a wooden handle that becomes cracked or splinter must be disposed of properly so that no injuries occur from the damaged equipment.
